BOZHYCHI
DVD of Ukrainian folk dances
A Ukrainian folk dance DVD, the first of its kind to be issued in Ukraine, has recently been released. The DVD Shkola Tradytsijnoho Ukrainskoho Tantsyu (School of Traditional Ukrainian Dance), Part 1 is a sort of a video guide to Ukrainian folk dances. The two-disc DVD and one CD set was compiled by the folk culture group Bozhychi, whose members have been collecting and performing Ukrainian folk dances and songs since 1996; a worthy contribution was also made by the members of the School of the Traditional Ukrianian Folk Dances.
The 72 minutes of video on the two DVD discs show and explain all the most important features of Ukrainian traditional folk dances; the discs also include 22 dances from several regions of Ukraine (Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsya). The CD of the set contains Ukrainian folk songs which were recorded by Illya Fetisov (leader of Bozhychi group), Susanna Karpenko and Serhiy Okhrimchuk, a leading folk fiddler who accompanies the singers on his fiddle.
Later this year, the work on the second part of the Shkola Tradytsijnoho Ukrainskoho Tantsyu (School of Traditional Ukrainian Dance) will continue, with hopak and some other traditional dances being the focal points._________________________________________________________________________________ The price: US $18,00 plus postage Please check availability before ordering ArtUkraine@voliacable.com
