The Ministry of Internal Affairs [Ukraine] is going to declassify archival
documents, concerning events in the period of the "Great Famine" in Ukraine
in 1932-33.
The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs disclosed this to
Ukrainian News.
Based upon the press service, the ministry is prepared to make available to
historians the more than 1,000 materials that are in its possession from the
Main Political Office, which during this time was responsible for
safeguarding law and order.
The press service disclosed that among the materials are also criminal
cases, which were investigated in connection with theft and concealment of
food products.
As Ukrainian News reported earlier, parliament in the middle of May declared
the famine of 1932-33 as an act of genocide.
As a result of the famine of 1932-33, based on various estimates, from 3 to
7 million people died.
