A liturgy in memory of the victims of the Soviet-imposed famine in Ukraine
(1932-1933) was held in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of the Mother of
God and St. Volodymyr in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on 6 October 2002.
This was done on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the famine.
Bishop Michel Hrynchyshyn, apostolic exarch for Ukrainian Greek Catholics in
France, Switzerland and the Benelux countries, called upon all Ukrainians
"to unite and support independent Ukraine, which is on its way of building a
democratic society."
The ambassador of Ukraine to Belgium, heads of Ukrainian civic
organizations, as well as representatives of the embassy, Ukraine's mission
in NATO, and the Ukrainian diaspora, were present at the liturgy.
